One of the most recognizable names in global football, Casemiro, is actually a decade-long typo, according to the man himself.
The Brazilian midfield star, whose full name is Carlos Henrique Casimiro (spelt with an ‘I’), has revealed that the ‘E’ in his shirt name originated from an early career clerical error a mistake he chose to keep for good luck.
“My name is Carlos Henrique Casimiro, with an ‘I’ there, not ‘Casemiro’,” the player explained. “I remember that I played a game for São Paulo and the club got my name wrong. They wrote it with an ‘E’.”
Crucially, the match in question was a standout performance for the young Brazilian. As a self-professed “superstitious person,” he decided not to correct the error, believing the misspelling was linked to his success on the pitch.
“I played really well in that game,” he admitted. “And as I’m a superstitious person, I said ‘No need to change it, just leave it like that, things are going well.’”
And so, the accidental ‘Casemiro’ stuck, becoming the official moniker under which the five-time Champions League winner has built his legendary career. “It was a mistake made in one game, the name stuck!” he concluded.
