CECAFA Senior Women Championship :Harambee Starlets dominate over East African neighbors

The Harambee Starlets, under coach Beldine Odemba, dominated their opponents with a commanding performance, driven by the exceptional play of Violet Nanjala and Fasila Adhiambo on the flanks.

Odemba made four strategic changes to her starting lineup from the match against Uganda. Lilian Awuor was handed a start in goal, replacing Annedy Kundu, who had featured against Burundi on Sunday. Fasila Adhiambo, left-back Enez Mango, and Lavender Akinyi also earned starting berths.

Diana Wacera was instrumental in the midfield, orchestrating play with precision. Her sublime, defence-splitting pass set up Nanjala, who perfectly timed her run to chip the ball past an onrushing Uganda goalkeeper.

This secured Kenya’s third goal in the 28th minute, coming shortly after Dorcas Shikobe and Wacera had each found the back of the net for the Starlets.

Kenya took a commanding 3-0 lead into halftime, effectively putting the game beyond reach for their opponents in the second half.

Uganda struggled to penetrate a solid Kenyan backline, marshalled effectively by captain and Woman of the Match, Dorcas Shikobe, alongside Enez Mango and Ruth Ingotsi. Although relatively quiet for much of the game, Martha Amunyolet sealed Kenya’s victory with eight minutes remaining, rising high to head home a pinpoint cross from Shikobe for the fourth goal.

The Starlets are scheduled to face South Sudan next on Thursday, June 19, before concluding their round-robin fixtures against hosts Tanzania on Saturday.
