CHAN: Dandora and Lucky Summer among six designated fan zones for the Kenya vs Zambia match

In an effort to ensure a safe and enjoyable match-day experience for all supporters, and comply with CAF sanctutions the government has designated six official fan zones for the Harambee Stars’ upcoming African Nations Championship (CHAN) match against Zambia on Sunday.

The zones are strategically located in city neighborhoods to provide an alternative viewing experience for fans and to ease crowd pressure on the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.

Cabinet Secretary for Youth Affairs, Creative Economy, and Sports, Salim Mvurya, announced the locations of the fan zones:

  • Uhuru Park (CBD)
  • Lucky Summer- Ngomo/area (Behind Kasarani Stadium)
  • Dandora Stadium
  • Utalii (Stima Club)
  • Jacaranda Grounds
  • Kibera DC Grounds

“These fan zones will bring the stadium atmosphere closer to the people, while helping us manage attendance at Kasarani in line with CAF’s requirements,” said CS Mvurya.

The establishment of these zones is a direct response to a recent directive from the Confederation of African Football (CAF), which has capped attendance for the match at 27,000 spectators, or 60% of the stadium’s capacity.

This restriction follows multiple safety and security breaches during previous CHAN matches, for which the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has been fined a total of Sh9 million.

To further ensure a secure environment, the government is deploying additional security personnel to safeguard fans, players, and officials at the stadium.

Only spectators with valid electronic tickets will be permitted entry, as CAF has banned the use of thermal paper tickets.

CS Mvurya also warned fans against purchasing fake tickets, stating, “Unless you have bought a ticket digitally, you will not be allowed access to the stadium.”

The CS emphasized the importance of good conduct from fans, noting that proper behavior will be crucial for Kenya’s bid to host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

“I urge my fellow Kenyans to come out and support Harambee Stars in an orderly way,” he stated, warning that continued security issues could jeopardize Kenya’s hosting rights for upcoming games to co-hosts Tanzania and Uganda.
