Tensions flared in Isiolo on Tuesday August 26, 2025 in the morning after suspected goons unleashed fresh chaos, destroying property and setting government offices ablaze.
The County Assembly premises for the second time was vandalized with the Speaker’s office and that of the Deputy Governor receiving a share of damages.
The unrest quickly escalated, culminating in the torching of the County Secretary’s office.
County Police Commander Paul Wambogo confirmed the arrest of one suspect believed to be the ringleader behind the arson attack.
He said investigations are underway to track down more suspects, warning that police will ensure all perpetrators are brought to book.
Security has since been reinforced around key government installations in the county amid fears of further attacks.
Meanwhile, Isiolo County Commissioner David Kiprop has urged residents to remain calm and allow security agencies to carry out their investigations.
Witnesses described the attack as violent and unsettling. Gerald Losana, the County Director of Human Resource, said he and other staff were forced to flee after armed youths stormed the premises.
Minutes later, they learned that the offices had been set ablaze.
County Secretary Dadhe Boru expressed concern that critical documents belonging to the Human Resource Department and the County Public Service Board may have been lost in the fire.
The attack left behind charred furniture and piles of burnt government records, raising fresh concerns over rising political tensions in the region.
