China hits back hard U.S. tariffs met with 84% blow in trade war clash

China has fired back at President Donald Trump’s aggressive trade policies.

Further announcing a massive hike in tariffs on U.S. goods to 84%, up from 34%, effective April 10.

The move is a direct response to Washington’s latest blow a brutal 104% tariff on Chinese products that kicked in at midnight.

The message from Beijing? They’re not backing down.

The tit-for-tat war is now threatening to choke trade between the world’s two largest economies.

With U.S. exports to China hitting $143.5 billion last year and Chinese imports to the U.S. reaching a staggering $438.9 billion.

U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent dismissed China’s response as a self-inflicted wound.

“This escalation is a loser for them,” he told Fox Business.

“They refuse to negotiate and continue to play unfair they have the most unbalanced economy the world has ever seen.”

But China isn’t standing alone.

When the Trump administration rolled out its new tariff wave on April 2, it warned countries not to strike back.

While Japan hinted at talks, China came out swinging, announcing its retaliation just days later.

Then Trump doubled down, piling on another 50% in tariffs bringing the total tax on Chinese goods to a stunning 104%.

The world is feeling it. The trade war panic is shaking global markets, pushing major indexes into bear territory.

The S&P 500 tumbled nearly 20% from its highs, while South Korea’s Kospi and stock markets in Shanghai and Hong Kong also took steep dives.

Earlier in Trump’s second term, the U.S. had already slapped China, Canada, and Mexico with fresh tariffs, citing the fight against fentanyl.

But critics say the real price is being paid by consumers, businesses, and investors now caught in the economic crossfire.

As tensions rise and tariff bombs keep dropping, the fallout is growing and there’s no clear off-ramp in sight.
