City Lawyer Kyalo Mbobu was shot 8 times – autopsy report

Slain lawyer Kyalo Mbobu died from excessive bleeding and severe injuries after being shot 8 times, according to an autopsy report by Chief Government Pathologist Johansen Oduor.

Speaking on Thursday, September 11, 2025 after the postmortem on Mbobu, Oduor revealed that pathologists recovered two bullets from his body.

The government pathologist explained that the shooting appeared to be intentional and at close range, with most of the shots fired from the victim’s right side.

“We found that Wakili was shot eight times and most of the gunshots came from the right side of the body. We were able to recover two bullets, which were given to the investigating officers for ballistic purposes,” he said.

“There was a lot of bleeding because of injury to the neck vessels and spine. They were severe enough to cause death.”

Meanwhile, the recovered bullets are set to undergo ballistic analysis, which investigators believe will help identify the type of firearm used and the caliber of the ammunition.

Mbobu was killed by unknown assailants in a drive-by shooting on Tuesday, September 9, as he was heading home. At the time of his shooting, the lawyer was making his way through Magadi Road.

Prior to his demise, Mbobu had reportedly held a meeting with unknown people inside one of the city hotels.

Reports indicate that the incident occurred during a traffic snarl-up along the Magadi Road, with the assailants taking the opportunity to shoot him.

His death sparked outrage from the Law Society of Kenya, which demanded justice even after the DCI disclosed that it had begun a probe to investigate his death.

LSK President Faith Odhiambo described the murder as a brutal and premeditated assassination that pointed to the dangerous climate facing legal practitioners in the country.
