A plane crash in Northeastern Colombia claimed the lives of all 15 people on board, including Colombian congressman Diógenes Quintero, on Wednesday January 28, 2026.
The state-owned airline Satena’s Beechcraft 1900 aircraft lost contact with air traffic control shortly after takeoff from Cúcuta, bound for Ocaña. Authorities confirmed the plane crashed in a rural area of La Playa de Belén, with no survivors.
Quintero, a representative of the “special peace constituencies” in Congress, was on the flight with his assistant. The U Party described him as a leader committed to his region and dedicated to public service.
The governor’s office of Norte de Santander expressed condolences to the families of the victims.
The search involved multiple aircraft, and the wreckage was found in a mountainous region.
Meanwhile, the cause of the crash is under investigation, with authorities citing adverse weather conditions and technical failure as possible factors.
