In Summary

  • The January 25 incident was reported at Diani Police Station under OB27/25/2023.
  • The tourists were jogging along Diani Beach Road when the madcap driver mowed them down.

Police in Diani, Kwale County, are reportedly on the trail of a Toyota Axio driver who ran over a group of tourists who were jogging along Diani Beach Road on the morning of January 25.

Mohammed Hersi, the chairman of Diani Hospitality Owners Association, says the driver did not stop after the incident.

"He left them for dead and never stopped and never bothered to report the incident which is despicable and barbaric act," says Hersi.  "Luckily Tuk Tuk riders shared the number plate."

The incident was reported at Diani Police Station under OB27/25/2023. One of the tourists was seriously injured and was rushed to Diani Beach Hospital for emergency treatment. He is now out of danger.

Hersi suggests that the driver is hiding in the hope that the tourists, who are Poles, will leave the country and the matter will fizzle out.

"Pole sana, the Polish Embassy in Kenya will not let that happen neither the authorities in Kenya. As tourism responsible we will not let this matter fizzle away. Justice must be served."

Hersi has called on the Directorate of Criminal Investigations and Tourist Police unit in Diani to arrest the culprit and ensure justice is served.
