Bomet Governor Hillary Barchok has suffered a significant legal setback after his attempt to block his arrest and prosecution on corruption charges has been rejected by the court.
The court’s decision clears the way for the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) to proceed with its case against the governor, who faces allegations of corruption.
Governor Barchok had sought court orders to prevent his apprehension and prosecution, arguing that the process was flawed.
However, the court declined to grant the orders, effectively denying him the protective measures he sought.
Justice Bahati Mwamuye directed that the petition be served on the respondents, including the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), and set the matter for mention on the 7th of this month for compliance.
This ruling means the governor must now face the legal process, including potential arrest and formal charging in relation to the corruption allegations leveled against him.
The EACC had previously summoned Governor Barchok for questioning regarding alleged corruption activities in his county administration.
With this court decision, the anti-graft body is expected to move forward with its plans to arrest and prosecute the county chief.
