High Court Judge justice Alexander Muteti has issued a warrant of arrest against a British national accused of committing murder in Nanyuki more than a decade ago.
The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, through Vincent Monda and Gikui Gichuhi appearing on behalf of the Republic, informed the court that the accused has been charged with the offence of murder.
The prosecution alleges that on the night of 31st March / 1st April 2012, at Lions Court Lodge in Nanyuki, Laikipia County, the accused committed the offence by killing Agnes Wanjiri Wanjiku.
The prosecution told the court that the accused, who is a citizen of the United Kingdom, was not in attendance, prompting the application for a warrant of arrest to facilitate his extradition to Kenya.
The prosecution further assured the court that although some of the witnesses are based in the UK, they will be made available during the hearing. “The witnesses are in United Kingdom but we will avail them,” said Vincent
In granting the application, Justice Muteti also directed that media outlets must not publish the names of the accused or any witnesses listed in the bundle of evidence provided, citing the need to safeguard the integrity of the judicial process.
“A warrant of arrest is issued …the court is certified that the bundle provided before it and there’s cause that he surrenders himself before the court for purposes of the trial,” said Justice Muteti
The matter will be mentioned on 21st October.
