Court orders MP Peter Salasya to issue public apology in hate speech case

Milimani Magistrate court has declined to withdraw a hate speech case against Mumias East MP Peter Salasya until he issues a public apology and participates in social media peace campaign.

The DPP through Prosecutor Nora Achieng had applied for the withdrawal of the matter saying there was an agreement between the accused and  NCIC to solve the matter out of court.

Magistrate Paul Mutai declined to withdraw the matter until Salasya complied with the agreement.

Mutahi has also ordered that evidence should be produced in court after compliance.

The matter will be mentioned on February 2, 2026 to confirm compliance.

Salasya was charged in May 2025 with hate speech. He is accused of posting inflammatory and insulting comments on Facebook targeting members of a particular community.
