Portugues football icon and Al Nassr forward Cristiano Ronaldo has thrown his future into doubt with a cryptic social media message following his final appearance of the Saudi Pro League season for Al Nassr.

The Portuguese icon scored his 25th league goal of the campaign as Al Nassr lost 3-2 to Al Fateh on the last day, securing third place and qualification for next season’s AFC Champions League.

Despite retaining his top-scorer crown, Ronaldo’s post-match message “This chapter is over. The story? Still being written. Thanks to all” has sparked speculation about whether he will continue with Al Nassr or seek a new challenge elsewhere.

Since joining Al Nassr in January 2023, Ronaldo has been prolific, netting 93 goals in 105 appearances across all competitions, according to Transfermarkt. His current contract is set to expire at the end of June 2025, making him a free agent unless a renewal is finalized. 

While there have been reports of a verbal agreement to extend his stay until 2026 with some sources even suggesting the possibility of a contract until 2027 no official announcement has been made, and Ronaldo’s recent comments have only fueled uncertainty.

Media reports in recent weeks have highlighted several possible destinations for the 40-year-old superstar.

Spanish outlet Marca claimed that an unnamed Brazilian club has made an offer for Ronaldo to play in the revamped FIFA Club World Cup in the US this summer, with Botafogo, Fluminense, Flamengo, and Palmeiras among the Brazilian teams participating. 

Meanwhile, Moroccan club Wydad Casablanca has denied rumors of any formal approach, clarifying that discussions with Ronaldo’s representatives were merely informal and did not progress beyond friendly talks
