The Cabinet Secretary for Health Aden Duale has flagged off 2000, Cold Chain Equipment (CCE) units at Afya house in Nairobi to boost Kenya’s immunization infrastructure.
The equipment, donated by UNICEF, will be distributed across all 47 counties to ensure vaccines remain effective and are safely delivered, especially in hard-to-reach areas.
During the event Hon. Duale emphasized that the initiative is a key step towards strengthening Primary Health Care, a critical pillar in the country’s Universal Health Coverage (UHC) agenda.
Themed “Strengthening Immunization Infrastructure for a Healthier Nation,” the event showcased the Government’s commitment to enhancing vaccine access and equity.
Additionally, the CS launched Kenya’s Integrated Immunization Data Repository and Dashboard Portal (KeNIVP)—an innovative digital platform designed to provide real-time vaccine and immunization data for improved planning and decision-making.
This development comes after Hon Duale reaffirmed his commitment to uphold the constitution by emphasizing the need to transfer the payrolls and associated budgets for Universal Health Coverage (UHC) staff from the Ministry of Health to county governments.
“Health is a devolved function. I will not violate the Constitution,” said the Cabinet Secretary underscoring his respect for the law and the spirit of devolution.
Hon. Duale made these remarks at Afya House, Nairobi, during the launch of 2,000 Cold Chain Equipment (CCE) donated by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).
He further said the equipment would be distributed to all 47 counties to enhance access to immunization services, a key component of Primary Health Care and an essential pillar of UHC.
This highlights the Government’s commitment to strengthening last-mile delivery of vaccines, in ensuring that every child, regardless of location, is protected from vaccine-preventable disease.
UNICEF Representative, Mr. Mahboob A. Bajwa, WHO Representative, Dr. Abdourahmane Diallo, Principal Secretaries Dr. Ouma Oluga (Medical Services) and Ms. Mary Muthoni (Public Health), Director General for Health, Dr. Patrick Amoth, and other senior Ministry officials joined Hon Aden Duale during the meeting.
