Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has claimed that government and security officials are colluding with criminals to traffic drugs and distribute illicit alcohol in the country.
Speaking on Monday July, 28, 2025 during a “Jukwaa la Wananchi” forum in Kitale, Trans Nzoia, Murkomen stated that this ”unholy alliance” is bringing insecurity and moral decay in the North Rift region.
He stated that the region has the highest illicit alcohol and drug abuse rates in the country factoring in the border location.
“An unholy alliance between some of our officers and rogue business people is abetting the sale of illicit drugs and we are going for them,” CS Murkomen stated emphatically.
In a strong message, the Cabinet Secretary announced the immediate deployment of a special national team to conduct a “sting operation” aimed at rooting out these corrupt networks.
He stressed that implicated officers will face immediate dismissal and direct court prosecution, rather than mere transfers, to ensure accountability.
Murkomen’s speech also touched on widespread land insecurity caused by fraudulent allotment letters issued by corrupt officials and the emergence of “fake squatters” and “fake IDPs” defrauding Kenyans, all of which contribute to the complex web of challenges in the region.
