CS Mvurya breaks ground for KSh 55 Million Suba-South Talent and Sports Academy

Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya today officiated the groundbreaking ceremony for the Suba-South Talent and Sports Academy at Magunga Primary School. The KSh 55 million initiative is poised to transform sports development in the region by identifying, nurturing, and monetizing local talent.

The academy will feature a comprehensive range of facilities including an eight-lane athletics track, football, basketball, and netball pitches, two changing rooms, a borehole and water infrastructure, and a social hall. The facility is expected to serve as a regional hub for talent development and community empowerment.

“This project will not only elevate our youth into global sports platforms but also empower communities economically,” said CS Mvurya, who directed the contractor to prioritize local labor in the implementation phase.

Mvurya, joined by Suba South MP Hon. Kalori Omondi, also commissioned several NG-CDF projects during the visit. He praised Omondi’s dedication to local development and commended Suba-South residents for supporting the government’s inclusive agenda.

Taking a swipe at opposition leaders, Mvurya urged residents to reject divisive politics, stating, “Development thrives through unity and participation — not through empty rhetoric.”

The CS further revealed that the KSh 700 million Raila Odinga International Stadium, currently 90% complete, will be officially handed over in two weeks, just ahead of the Madaraka Day celebrations.
