Energy Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi on Christmas day 2025, joined members of the Odinga family and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leaders at Kang’o Ka Jaramogi in Bondo Constituency to pay homage to the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
He was received by Raila’s widow and Raila Junior before laying a tribute at the gravesite.

Raila passed away on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, while receiving treatment in India, an announcement that sent shockwaves across the country and beyond.
Wandayi, who is among the ODM leaders nominated to President William Ruto’s Cabinet under the broad-based government arrangement, described the visit as a moment of deep reflection and respect.
“Honoured to pay homage to our departed leader, the Right Honourable Raila Odinga, at Kang’o Ka Jaramogi,” Wandayi said. “I pay my respects and tribute to our fallen hero. Keep resting in peace, Baba.”
Those present during the visit included Raila’s daughter Rosemary Odinga, his son Raila Junior, Vihiga Senator Geoffrey Osotsi, Trevor Ombija, Kasmuel McOure, among other family members and allies.

The visit came a day after Health Principal Secretary Collins Oluga, accompanied by Oketch Salah, who has publicly identified himself as Raila’s adopted son, also visited the Odinga family mausoleum to honour the late statesman.

Raila was laid to rest within 72 hours, in accordance with his will, a decision that sparked mixed reactions among Kenyans, some of whom felt it limited the opportunity for nationwide mourning.
Since his burial, mourners have continued to stream into Kang’o Ka Jaramogi to lay wreaths and pay their respects.
The ongoing visits reflect Luo cultural traditions, where an elder of Raila’s stature is mourned for at least 40 days.
During this period, leaders, relatives and friends gather to console the family, reflect on the departed leader’s legacy and recommit to his vision.
The continued flow of mourners underscores Raila Odinga’s enduring influence on Kenya’s political and social landscape.
