Public Service Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku has issued a firm directive requiring all public servants across the country to report to work as scheduled on Monday, 7th July 2025.

Speaking during the anniversary celebrations of the ACK Embu Diocese, the CS cautioned that no public holiday has been declared, and failure to report to duty will attract disciplinary measures.

“Tomorrow, Monday 7th July 2025, is not a public holiday. We are expected across the Republic of Kenya to be in our offices as per the Human Resource Policy and Procedure Manual of the Public Service 2016,” said Ruku.

The CS emphasized that the government has not announced any holiday or suspension of work and urged all heads of departments to ensure strict adherence to official working hours.

“No directive has been issued by the government for a public holiday or suspension of work. I urge all heads of departments to monitor staff attendance closely,” he stated.

Ruku further stressed the importance of punctuality, stating: “Ofisi ni saa mbili, kufunga ni 5pm,” reiterating the official working hours from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

He warned that impromptu inspections will be conducted to ensure compliance. “I will be doing spot checks, na nikifika nikute hakuna watu then there will be letters of show cause as to why you are not reporting to work at the required time,” the CS cautioned.

His statement comes amid heightened tensions ahead of planned demonstrations, with speculation on whether the day would be observed as a holiday.

However, CS Ruku made it clear that all government services are expected to run uninterrupted, and public servants must be present at their workstations.
