Today, Cabinet Secretary for Lands, Public Works, Housing and Urban Development, Alice Wahome, visited the remarkable Lumumba Affordable Housing Project in Kisumu — a bold and inspiring initiative launched by President William Samoei Ruto in 2024.
Situated in the heart of Kisumu Central, the project will deliver 2,384 modern housing units, setting a new standard for affordable and dignified urban living in Kenya.
The units are distributed as follows: 452 social housing units, 1,192 affordable housing units, 740 market-rate apartments.
From modern studios to spacious three-bedroom apartments, the project caters to a wide spectrum of residents — from young professionals to growing families.
Beyond the housing itself, the development is designed to create a complete, vibrant community, offering: Secure, well-lit streets and guardhouses, family-friendly play areas and a full clubhouse, a fully equipped health facility, modern shopping mall, an early childhood development (ECD) center, landscaped walkways and green spaces.

Speaking during the site visit, CS Hon. Alice Wahome remarked: “This project is not just about bricks and mortar. It’s about restoring dignity, creating opportunity, and building a future where every Kenyan has access to decent, affordable housing. What we are witnessing here in Kisumu is the true spirit of the Affordable Housing Programme at work — transformational, inclusive, and visionary.”
With completion scheduled for January 2026, the Lumumba Project stands as a shining example of how public-private collaboration and political will can turn bold visions into reality.
Kisumu is rising — and with projects like this, Kenya is redefining its urban future.
