Day three drama as teams seal semifinal spots at KSSSA Brookside Nationals 2026 in Kisumu

Day Three of the 2026 Brookside KSSSA National Term One Games in Kisumu lived up to expectations, as teams across various disciplines battled fiercely to secure semifinal slots in front of large, energetic crowds.
Fans turned up in impressive numbers, creating an electrifying atmosphere that set the tone for a decisive day of action.
Basketball Highlights
The day tipped off with a thrilling basketball clash between Friends School Kamusinga and St Mary’s Yala. In a high-stakes encounter, Yala emerged victorious to book their place in the semifinals, where they are now set to face Lukenya. Despite the loss, Kamusinga also progressed and will meet defending champions Leiser Hill in the next round.

Rugby: Upper Hill Dominance Continues

In rugby, Upper Hill School reaffirmed their status as the team to beat after winning all their group stage matches. Their dominant run has earned them a semifinal date against Kakamega School.
Kisii School also secured their place in the last four and will face Lake Region champions St Mary’s Yala in what promises to be a fiercely contested encounter.
In the girls’ category, Kinale Girls will take on Mbagathi Girls, while Mwira Girls are set to clash with Saint Joseph’s Kitale Girls in equally exciting semifinal matchups.

Hockey: Rivalries Renewed as Semifinals Beckon

In hockey, the long-standing rivalry between Tigoi and St Joseph’s was reignited in a crucial group-stage decider. St Joseph’s, also known as “JOBO,” emerged victorious to secure a semifinal slot, where they will face AIC Nyayo.
Ngiya will take on Nyamira in the other girls’ semifinal, following competitive Pool B matches that saw Nyamira remain solid defensively and St Joseph’s showcase attacking quality.
In the boys’ category, semifinal fixtures have also been confirmed, with Kisumu Day set to face Friends School Kamusinga, while Ringa Boys will battle St Anthony’s Boys Kitale.

Handball: Dance, Flair and Determination

Handball matches brought both flair and intensity, with teams combining skill and celebration on the court. Eastern champions St Augustine Matuu squeezed into the semifinals and will now face St Joseph’s (JOBO).
Other semifinal fixtures will see Highway take on Musingu, while in the girls’ category, Karai will face Moi Girls Kamusinga, and St Joseph’s will play Nyakach.

Athletics: Stars Shine on the Track

Day Three also delivered standout performances in athletics. Emmanuel Kiprono impressed in the 5000 meters, clocking 13:31.4 to finish ahead of Colenius Kibichi and Kirui Kemboi.
In the girls’ races, Nancy Mutua claimed victory in the 5000 meters, while Josephine Sebenyo triumphed in the 1500 meters, highlighting the depth of talent on display.
