Detectives dismantle two drug syndicates in back-to-back operations in Kibra

Officers from the Anti-Narcotics Unit, backed by the Anti-Terrorism Police Unit and the Operations Action Team, have dismantled two linked drug networks operating in the Karanja area of Kibra Sub-County in a coordinated covert operation.

Acting on credible intelligence, the multi-agency team first targeted a residential house associated with illicit drug trafficking.

The premises, occupied by 51-year-old Ahmed Juma Wanjiru, were placed under discreet surveillance before officers moved in and conducted a thorough search.

They recovered 14 packages of dry plant material suspected to be narcotic drugs, packed in non-woven and ziplock bags in a manner consistent with distribution.

Also found were assorted empty packaging bags, two digital weighing scales, and cash totalling Ksh 31,700 believed to be proceeds from the drug trade.

An international vaccination certificate bearing the suspect’s name and a Samsung Galaxy A05 mobile phone were also seized.

Wanjiru was arrested on the spot and is currently in custody at a government facility awaiting further legal proceedings.

In a follow-up operation within the same area, detectives zeroed in on a second residence occupied by Sofia Burhan Marjan, based on fresh intelligence about ongoing narcotics distribution.

A search of the house yielded seven packages of suspected narcotics, additional quantities stored in a basin, and two more packages of rolled substances.

Officers further recovered four weighing scales, a pair of scissors, a smoking pipe, and assorted polythene packaging materials, items typically associated with the preparation and sale of drugs.

Investigators also found a cash bail receipt, a charge sheet and witness statements bearing the suspect’s name, pointing to prior criminal proceedings.

Marjan was arrested and taken to Muthaiga Police Station where she remains in custody.

All seized exhibits from both operations were transferred to the DCI Headquarters exhibit store for safe custody and forensic examination.

The DCI described the twin operations as a demonstration of its firm resolve to dismantle drug trafficking networks and protect communities from the harmful effects of narcotics.
