Diamond League shifts Doha meeting to June amid safety concerns

The Doha leg of the Wanda Diamond League has been pushed back, with organisers confirming a new date of June 19 and a change of venue to the Khalifa International Stadium.

Initially slated for May 8 at the Qatar Sports Club, the Mazzraty Doha Meeting was rescheduled following consultations between event organisers, Qatari authorities, and other stakeholders. The move comes after a period of close monitoring of conditions in the region, with safety considerations taking priority.

The switch to Khalifa International Stadium is expected to help mitigate the effects of Doha’s intense summer heat. The venue, which previously hosted the 2019 World Athletics Championships, is equipped with advanced cooling technology designed to maintain optimal conditions for both athletes and spectators.

With the revised date, the Doha meeting will now form the eighth stop on the 2026 Diamond League calendar. It will come after the Bislett Games in Oslo on June 10 and ahead of the Meeting de Paris on June 28, fitting into a packed mid-season schedule.

The 2026 campaign is set to begin in Shanghai/Keqiao on May 16, before culminating in the Diamond League Final in Brussels on September 4–5.

Organisers have reiterated their commitment to staging a safe and high-quality competition, adding that the situation in the Middle East will continue to be reviewed in the lead-up to the rescheduled event.
