Police in Kakamega Town are investigating an incident where a sex worker was found dead inside a lodging.
Her body was discovered on Monday, October 6 morning, with the motive behind the killing yet to be established.
“We highly suspect that the murderer disagreed with the sex worker over payment. These incidents happen a lot. Something has to be done to save female sex workers,” one resident who sought anonymity told TV47 Digital.
Locals and sex workers in the area are now calling on authorities and lodging operators to introduce identification and registration systems for clients to help enhance security and curb similar crimes.
“We are our own security. No one cares if we are paid or not, or if we are beaten or underpaid. We are on our own,” said a female sex worker.
The body of the victim has been taken to Kakamega County Referral Hospital Mortuary as police continue investigations into the killing.
