Didmus Barasa surprises crowd after paying Ksh100,000 fees for needy students

‎Kimilili Member of Parliament Didmus Barasa on Friday surprised a rally crowd in Bungoma town after paying  Ksh100,000  school fees for two needy students, drawing applause from residents who attended the political gathering.

‎Speaking during the rally, Barasa said the gesture was driven by his belief that education remains the strongest tool for transforming lives and uplifting communities.

‎He noted that many bright students in Bungoma County drop out of school due to lack of fees, a situation he said leaders must deliberately address.

‎The MP used the occasion to drum up support for his 2027 gubernatorial bid, pledging that education would be among his top priorities should he be elected Bungoma governor.

‎ “One of my key agendas once I am elected governor is to boost education across the county. No child should miss school because of poverty,” Barasa said.

‎He further cited his recent intervention in Kimilili Constituency, where he supported all students transitioning to Grade 10 saying the move was aimed at easing the financial burden on parents and encouraging school retention.

‎Barasa also outlined other sectors he plans to prioritise, including vocational training, healthcare and road infrastructure.

‎He expressed concern over the poor state of many Vocational Training Centres (VTCs) in the county, promising to allocate resources to upgrade facilities and improve learning conditions.

‎“Most vocational training centres in Bungoma are in a bad state. I intend to invest heavily in infrastructure and ensure our youth acquire practical skills that can create jobs,” he said.

‎The legislator took a swipe at his political opponents, accusing them of lacking a clear development agenda for the county.

‎ He urged residents to judge leaders based on tangible achievements rather than empty promises.

‎ “Bungoma residents can confirm what I have done in Kimilili Constituency. I am only in my eighth year as MP, but the impact speaks for itself,” Barasa remarked.
