The Deputy Inspector-General of the Administration Police Service (DIG-APS), Mr. Gilbert Masengeli, today represented the Inspector-General of the National Police Service (IG-NPS), Mr. Douglas Kanja, in Hulugho Township, Garissa County. He was present to console the family of the slain chief of Boma Location, the late Abdifatah Ghani.

Mr. Masengeli also met with teachers and pupils at Hulugho Primary School, where he shared his heartfelt condolences following the killing of teacher Peter Musili. The two reprehensible murders took place early yesterday morning within the township.

In a message read on his behalf by Mr. Masengeli, the IG-NPS assured the bereaved local community of Hulugho that the multi-agency security teams in the area are working tirelessly towards the arrest and apprehension of the criminal elements responsible for this senseless act, which claimed the lives of both a local administrative officer and a dedicated young teacher.

Noting that an incident of this nature had not occurred within the township before, Mr. Masengeli urged the community to collaborate closely with the security agencies by sharing vital intelligence for the benefit of all.

Mr. Masengeli also visited the grieving widow of the slain chief, Ms. Aftina Shalle Wabi, and conveyed the condolences of the National Police Service and the government. Chief Ghani was buried yesterday in accordance with Islamic rites.

Later, DIG Masengeli held a closed-door meeting with the local formed-up units and forward operating bases (FOBs). He was briefed via a well-structured presentation on efforts underway to enhance public safety and security.

He demanded a robust approach to all security matters and urged the officers to be more proactive in their day-to-day policing. He stated that he wished to see a greater focus on security within the township and in the outlying border areas.

Accompanying DIG Masengeli were the Commandant of the General Service Unit (GSU), Mr. Ranson Lolmodooni, SAIG, and the Director of Corporate Communications / Spokesperson, Mr. Muchiri Nyaga, AIG.
