DJ Dibul opens up on his 2-day detention in Dubai

Kenyan DJ and media personality DJ Dibul has revealed that he was held for two days in Dubai after travelling for what was meant to be a work-related visit.

The DJ is now urging Kenyans, especially creatives, to thoroughly vet travel arrangements and promoters before flying out of the country.

Speaking during a radio interview, Dibul explained that upon arrival in the United Arab Emirates, he and other Kenyan entertainers were stopped by authorities and detained at the airport for two days before being released.

He clarified that the incident was not a dramatic arrest as speculated online, but rather a consequence of travel and documentation issues.

The DJ said the experience was frustrating and costly, noting that time was lost and scheduled commitments back home were disrupted.

He stressed that many artistes rush into international opportunities without confirming whether visas, contracts and event permits align with the nature of their work.

Dibul also used the moment to caution entertainers against trusting promoters blindly, saying some organisers oversell opportunities without ensuring the legal side of travel is handled correctly.

According to him, performers should take responsibility for understanding the rules of the countries they are travelling to, even when trips are sponsored.

The discussion sparked conversation online, with many Kenyans sharing similar experiences and warning that countries like the UAE are strict when it comes to work visas, especially for entertainers entering on tourist permits.
