‘Don’t over-analyse Raila’s remarks, UDA-ODM partnership is firm’ – Senator Cherargei

A leading voice from the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has called for calm, urging Kenyans not to over-analyse recent comments made by Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga.

According to Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei, the joint partnership between UDA and ODM is a roaring success and is set to continue well past the 2027 general election.

The statement comes after Raila’s recent address at an ODM parliamentary group meeting. During the meeting, he spoke about the background to the deal with the government and dismissed claims that ODM had already decided against fielding a presidential candidate in 2027.

Senator Cherargei believes Raila’s words are simply a case of a party leader rallying his troops.

He insists they do not signal any instability in the political partnership that has reshaped Kenya’s political landscape.

“People should not read too much into what Raila Odinga said in the ODM parliamentary group meeting because the UDA-ODM joint partnership is working perfectly beyond 2027,” Senator Cherargei stated.

The UDA-ODM partnership, formalised earlier this year with a memorandum of understanding (MoU), has brought together two of the country’s most significant political forces.

The agreement, which followed a period of intense political tension, aims to create a “broad-based government” and address critical national issues.

Key points of the MoU include, full implementation of the National Dialogue Committee (NADCO) report, constitutional and legal reforms and focus on youth employment and economic reform.

The senator’s comments highlight the ongoing political balancing act between the two parties. While they have agreed to work together on national issues, the long-term political ambitions of each party’s members remain a subject of intense speculation.

“This is a perfect marriage between the two parties. It’s a deal that has brought stability and development to the country,” Cherargei added.

The coming months will be crucial in determining the true strength of this political alliance as both parties navigate their internal dynamics while working towards shared national goals.
