Three men have been charged with the murder of Kasipul Member of Parliament, Charles Ong’ondo Were.
William Imoli alias Imo, Edwin Odour Odhiambo alias Machuani, and Ebel Ochieng alias Dave Calo appeared before Lady Justice Diana Kavedza at the Kibera High Court today. They all pleaded not guilty to the murder charge.
The accused are alleged to have jointly, with others not yet apprehended, murdered Hon. Were on the night of April 30, 2025, at approximately 7:40 PM.
The fatal incident reportedly occurred at the City Mortuary Roundabout along Ngong Road in Kilimani Sub-County, Nairobi County.
The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), through the investigating officer, filed an affidavit urging the court to deny the accused bond or bail, citing grave concerns for witness safety and the integrity of the ongoing investigation.
The court was informed that during their initial arraignment on June 4, 2025, Ebel Ochieng alias Dave Calo allegedly issued an explicit order to one of the prosecution counsels in open court – an incident that was duly noted by the presiding Judge.
The DPP vehemently opposed bond, revealing that the firearm used to fire the fatal bullet was recovered from Edwin, directly linking him to the murder.
William is accused of having driven the vehicle used to trail the MP from Parliament, while Ebel reportedly procured a mobile phone and fraudulently registered a SIM card crucial for coordinating the murder.
The prosecution further disclosed that William and Ebel were in constant communication with another suspect, identified as the deceased’s bodyguard.
This individual is expected to be charged with murder before the Milimani High Court.
Additionally, the court heard that Edwin was found in possession of two firearms, one of which is believed to have been used in the MP’s murder.
He is also implicated in a series of other criminal activities across Nairobi and Kiambu Counties.
According to the autopsy report, the late MP sustained multiple gunshot wounds, all entering from the left side of his body. Recovered bullets, metallic jackets, and spent cartridges have been submitted for ballistic analysis.
The prosecution has lined up 35 witnesses to testify in the case.
The court has directed the probation officer to prepare a detailed pre-bail report. The case is scheduled for mention on July 17, 2025, for further directions.
