As laughter and quiet anticipation filled the grounds of Manasseh Children’s Home in Roysambu, Second Lady Dr. Joyce Kithure used the festive season to deliver a deeply personal message of hope directly to the children, many of whom have known loss, disruption and hardship early in life.
Addressing them during her visit on December 30, Dr. Kithure reminded the children that their present circumstances do not define their future, offering reassurance at a time of year that can be especially difficult for vulnerable families.
“To our dear children: I want you to know that you matter and that your dreams are valid,” she said, pausing to let the words settle. “Your present situation does not determine your future.”
Her message cut through the formality of speeches and ceremonies, focusing instead on the inner resilience and potential of each child.
She encouraged them to see themselves not through the lens of vulnerability, but through their capacity to grow, learn and contribute meaningfully to the country.
“Within each of you lies unique potential, resilience and purpose,” Dr. Kithure said.
She emphasised education, discipline, and strong values as tools that can help young people overcome adversity and shape their own paths.
“With education, discipline, strong values and belief in yourselves you can overcome challenges and contribute positively to our Country.”
The visit came at a moment when many Kenyans are reflecting on the year behind them and the future ahead.
For the children of Manasseh Home, Dr. Kithure’s words served as affirmation that they are seen, valued, and included in the national story.
Beyond addressing the children, she acknowledged the broader ecosystem that supports them, noting that communities across Kenya continue to open their hearts and homes to those in need.
She described this collective effort as a powerful expression of national values rooted in care and responsibility.
As the year ends, her message carried a clear takeaway: that hope must be nurtured deliberately, especially among the young.
By speaking directly to the children and affirming their worth, Dr. Kithure transformed a festive visit into a moment of empowerment, one that reminded them, and the nation, that the future remains open, full of promise and firmly within reach.
