Tension is high at Senteu Plaza in Kilimani after police and boda boda riders surrounded the building following a dramatic court ruling by the Business Premises Rent Tribunal (BPRT).
Tribunal Judge Hon. Cyprian Mugambi ordered the reinstatement of city Tycoob Chris Obure to the building after ruling that his recent eviction by Ajeetkumar C. Shah was unlawful. The dispute centers on the ownership and sale of the prime commercial property, where it is confirmed that Obure paid a total of Kshs. 1.3 Billion. The case numbers are BPRT/E178/2025 and BPRT/E553/2025.
In his decision, Judge Mugambi stated that Obure had been illegally removed from the premises and directed that he be allowed back into the building and ordered Kilimani OCS to reinstate him.
Obure, through his company SBS Dunhill East Africa Limited was evicted from the first floor of Senteu Plaza two months ago. The previous property owners, led by Pankaj Shah, argued that Obure’s lease had expired on August 31, 2023, while not disclosing that the relationship was based on a Lease to purchase arrangement.
Obure claims that he had initiated the process of purchasing the building and accuses Panakaj of double-dealing in the transaction.
The cases has now been closed.
