Driftwood 7s kicks off national circuit with thrilling Rugby action: Quins, Kabras, KCB and Strathmore unbeaten

The highly anticipated Driftwood 7s, the inaugural leg of the 2025 National Rugby 7s Circuit, has set the Kenyan rugby season ablaze with a weekend of electrifying action at the Mombasa Sports Club.

Both Division One and Division Two teams battled fiercely, showcasing the depth of talent and competitive spirit across the nation.

In Division One, the established powerhouses wasted no time asserting their dominance. KCB Rugby were in formidable form, dispatching Daystar Falcons 24-14 before utterly dominating MSC Rugby with a resounding 43-00 victory.

They continued their winning ways by crushing Nondescripts RFC 40-00, solidifying their status as early contenders for the circuit title. Kabras Sugar RFC also displayed their championship credentials, securing a 26-00 win over Nakuru RFC and a convincing 21-07 triumph against Impala RFC, later topping Catholic Monks 29-00.

Kenya Harlequins, the defending champions of the National 7s Circuit, began their title defense strongly with a 14-07 victory over KU Blakblad and a 17-00 shutout against Mwamba RFC, eventually overpowering MMUST 45-00.

Strathmore Leos also enjoyed a strong showing, with comprehensive wins over Kabarak University (28-00) and Stallions Rugby (26-00), capping their weekend with a hard-fought 14-05 win against Menengai Oilers.

Meanwhile, the Division Two competition proved to be a hotbed of exciting rugby, with upsets and fiercely contested matches.

KCA University delivered a notable upset, narrowly beating Kilifi Titans 05-00, while Mean Machine showcased their strength with a commanding 31-00 victory over North Coast Stormers.

NYS Spades were equally impressive, clinching a 31-00 win against KCNP and a 17-07 win over Makueni RFC.

The competitive nature of Division Two was further highlighted by close encounters like South Coast Pirates’ narrow 15-12 win over Vihiga Granites, keeping fans on the edge of their seats and promising an unpredictable circuit ahead.

The successful kickoff of the Driftwood 7s bodes well for the remainder of the National Rugby 7s Circuit, promising more thrilling rugby as teams vie for supremacy in both divisions.
