EACC hosts African delegations on anti-corruption benchmarking tour

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission(EACC) is this week hosting delegations from sierra Leone, Somalia, South Sudan, and Uganda for benchmarking on its corruption risk management (CRM) programs.

The initiative is supported by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and seeks to deepen regional cooperation in the fight against corruption.

The benchmarking tour comes at a time when EACC has recorded notable achievements in strengthening governance systems through preventive approaches.

The Commission has established and operationalized Corruption Prevention Committees across counties, ministries, departments, and agencies.

In addition, EACC has carried out 52 system reviews in 27 County Governments and 4 Ministries. These reviews have been instrumental in identifying governance loopholes, mitigating risks, and ensuring compliance with integrity standards.

According to EACC, prevention remains one of the most effective strategies in the fight against corruption.

By analyzing existing systems, the Commission has been able to recommend reforms that plug opportunities for graft before they occur. This approach not only safeguards public resources but also promotes accountability, efficiency, and public trust in government institutions.

The visiting delegations are expected to gain insights into Kenya’s experiences, particularly in establishing institutional frameworks that entrench integrity within public service.

The engagement also offers a platform for the nations to share their own challenges, strategies, and progress in combating corruption.

Speaking during the opening session, EACC officials underscored the importance of African countries working together to confront corruption, which continues to undermine development across the continent.

They noted that effective collaboration and knowledge sharing will contribute to stronger governance structures, thereby boosting service delivery and economic growth.

The benchmarking exercise highlights the role of partnerships in building resilient anti-corruption systems, positioning Kenya as a key reference point in regional governance reforms.
