EACC recovers Ksh67 million Illegally paid to National Treasury official

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has made a major court victory, recovering over Ksh 67 million irregularly paid to Faith Jematia Kiptis, an officer at the National Treasury.

Judgement was delivered on 15th July 2025 where Justice Musyoki of the Anti-Corruption and Economic Crimes Division found that Ms. Kiptis received public funds concealed as taskforce, facilitation, entertainment and other allowances without proper authorization or SRC approval.

The High Court ordered refund of Ksh 67,664,975 and give up funds from her Equity Ksh 2,443,667.92 and KCB Accounts Ksh 6,320,419. Additionally payment of interest on the amount until fully recovered and also the payment of all legal costs.

EACC investigations revealed that between January 2020 and June 2022, Kiptis received repetitive and unjustified allowances not recognized in public service guidelines.

This payment was beyond her job group and allowances not approved by the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC).

The Court emphasized that SRC’s advice is binding and criticized the National Treasury for effecting payments without adhering to due process.

This recovery is part of EACC effort that has seen over Kes 174 million reclaimed from Treasury officials involved in similar dishonest schemes.
