EACC strengthens FBI partnership through advanced Anti-Corruption training in USA

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has reinforced its collaboration with the United States’ Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) through a high-level training program aimed at boosting the capacity of Kenyan anti-graft officers.

The EACC Secretary and Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Abdi A. Mohamud, MBS, officially opened the Advanced Public Corruption Training for 26 officers at the FBI Academy in Quantico, Virginia. The event was also attended by FBI Assistant Director in charge of Training, Mr. Matthew Miraglia, alongside other senior FBI officials.

Mohamud commended the FBI for facilitating the program, noting that it builds on “the strong collaboration between the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission and the Federal Bureau of Investigation in the discharge of their respective mandates.”

The specialized training focuses on advanced investigative techniques, anti-corruption strategies, forensic analysis, and international cooperation, equipping officers with technical skills to combat corruption and economic crimes. Emphasizing the importance of cross-border collaboration, the CEO highlighted “the significance of multi-agency cooperation, both regionally and globally, in the fight against corruption.”

In addition to the training, Mr. Mohamud engaged in strategic talks with top FBI leadership on intelligence sharing and the recovery of corruption proceeds. He also met with senior officials from the U.S. Department of Justice to explore capacity-building opportunities, particularly in cross-border investigations and Mutual Legal Assistance (MLA).

Concluding his U.S. mission, the EACC chief paid a courtesy call on Kenyan Ambassador to Washington, D.C., H.E. Amb. David Kerich. Discussions centered on collaborative mechanisms to address fake academic credentials allegedly issued by U.S.-based institutions of higher learning.
