In Summary

  • 6,507 highly-trained students will graduate at the event which will be held at Thika Main Campus.

  • The day's theme is "The role of universities in peace building for social-economic development."

Mount Kenya University is set to hold its 21st graduation ceremony today.

Over 6,000 students will receive graduate in the [largely] virtual event that'll be presided over by the university Chancellor Prof. John Struthers.

The day's theme is "The role of universities in peace building for social-economic development."

The institution's Vice Chancellor Prof. Deogratius Jaganyi says this theme fortifies the peace efforts that they have been conducting as the country prepares for the general election.

"This particular theme is actually a continuation of sensitising the country about the importance of peace before and after election," he says.

In May 2022, MKU hosted the second international conference on peace, security and social enterprise.  There has been several other efforts involving students, international partners and the academia. Last May, the university hosted a Peace Awareness Walk across its campuses in Thika, Nakuru, Eldoret, Nairobi, Parklands, Mombasa and Meru.

The event, which will be held at the Mwai Kibaki Convention Centre at the university's Thika Main Campus, will be beamed live on 'TV47' and on social media platforms Facebook and YouTube
