Sifuna reveals persons sponsoring ‘Linda Mwananchi’ ODM rallies

Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has dismissed claims that the “Linda Mwananchi” rallies are funded by powerful political figures, insisting the movement is sustained through personal contributions and voluntary support from ordinary Kenyans.

Speaking during an interview on March 2, 2026, Sifuna said the amount caters for essential infrastructure, including the jukwaa setup and public address system, describing the expenses as unavoidable for any large-scale political gathering.

He added that the funds are raised internally, with about 20 Members of Parliament contributing roughly KSh50,000 each, which totals to approximately KSh.500,000, while the remaining balance comes from voluntary donations.

He emphasized that no individual or political heavyweight is bankrolling the events. In particular, Sifuna addressed speculation linking former President Uhuru Kenyatta to the financing of the rallies, stating that while Uhuru remains a friend, he is not sponsoring their activities.

According to Sifuna, support for the rallies has come from unexpected quarters, including students who have voluntarily sent contributions.

He described the donations as symbolic of grassroots belief in their message. “Even students are sending money,” he said, underscoring what he framed as organic support from ordinary citizens.

Sifuna maintained that their initiative is not tied to any community or private sponsor and does not operate under hidden financial arrangements.

Instead, he portrayed it as a collective effort driven by leaders pooling resources and supporters contributing what they can.

The senator’s remarks appear aimed at countering narratives that the rallies are being orchestrated or financed by external political interests.

By outlining the funding structure publicly, he sought to position the movement as independent and transparent.
