Eight people have been confirmed dead and 11 others injured after a Naekana Shuttle matatu was involved in a head-on collision with a Tahmeed bus at Konza City on Saturday, January 3 morning.
Mukaa Sub-County Police Commander Hassan Abduba, confirming the incident, says the driver of the Loitoktok-bound matatu was overtaking a lorry along the Nairobi-Mombasa Road, when he collided with the oncoming bus.
“Basi ya Tahmeed ilifika hapo karibu na Konza City, ikakutana na matatu ya Naekana ikitoka Nairobi. Hiyo matatu ilikuwa ina overtake lorry ikapatana na hiyo basi head on collision,” the police boss told TV47 Digital.
Six people died on the spot as a result of the impact of the crash, while two others died while receiving treatment at Machakos Level 5 Hospital where they were rushed.
