Emurua Dikirr MP Johana Kipyegon Ng’eno is among six people who lost their lives following a helicopter crash in Mosop, Nandi County, on Saturday, February 28, 2026.
Sources close to the investigation indicate that detectives recovered a mobile phone and SIM card belonging to the legislator at the crash site. Similar items linked to Amos Kipngetich Rotich, an officer attached to the Kenya Forest Service, were also retrieved from the scene.
TV47 has obtained images of four passengers believed to have been seated behind the pilot during the aircraft’s final flight. Investigators are reportedly using the photographs to assist in identifying the remaining occupants of the ill-fated helicopter.
Ng’eno was first elected to Parliament in 2013 and retained his seat in both the 2017 and 2022 General Elections. At the time of his death, he was serving as Chairperson of the Departmental Committee on Housing, Urban Planning and Public Works. In that capacity, he recently spearheaded the review of the 2026 Budget Policy Statement (BPS) and led oversight visits to Affordable Housing projects.
As a departmental committee chair, he was also a member of the Liaison Committee, which coordinates the operations of all National Assembly committees. Over previous parliamentary terms, he had served in the Departmental Committee on Justice and Legal Affairs as well as the Public Investments Committee (PIC).
The helicopter, registration number 5Y-DSB, crashed and burst into flames in Chepkiep area of Mosop Sub-county at around 4:45pm. Reports indicate the aircraft had made an emergency landing due to bad weather and went down shortly after attempting to take off again once conditions improved.
Flight tracking data from Flightradar24 shows the aircraft is an Airbus Helicopters H125 model. Records indicate it departed Nairobi at 11:02am on Saturday, February 28, though available data does not show when it landed at its destination or when it was scheduled to depart.
The same aircraft is reported to have made two additional trips earlier in February — one on February 22 from an undisclosed location, and another on February 21 from Nairobi to Wilson Airport.
Authorities are continuing investigations into the cause of the crash.
