Eric Omondi calls on musicians, comedians to join hands for ‘tuko kadi’ concert

Comedian and activist Eric Omondi has announced what he describes as Kenya’s biggest-ever entertainment gathering, a free concert set to bring together musicians and comedians from across generations, with a unique twist: entry will strictly and only require a voter’s card.

The event, scheduled for May 1st at Nyayo National Stadium, is part of a growing civic push aimed at encouraging voter registration ahead of the 2027 General Elections.

Omondi is calling on both “old school and new school” artists to unite and make the initiative a success, blending entertainment with civic responsibility.

In his announcement, Omondi emphasized the scale and purpose of the event, stating:
“May 1st yaani tarehe moja mwezi wa tano Kenya will experience the biggest concert with all the old skul and new skul musicians plus comedians na entry ni kadi.”

The concert is tied to the “Tuko Kadi” movement, a youth-driven campaign that has been gaining momentum, particularly among Gen Zs.

The phrase “Tuko Kadi” translating to “We are registered”  has become a rally call encouraging young people and eligible voters to secure their voter’s cards early, positioning themselves to actively participate in shaping the country’s leadership in 2027.

The movement goes beyond just registration. It represents a shift in mindset among young Kenyans, signaling increased political awareness and a desire to move from online activism to tangible civic action.

By tying concert entry to voter registration, Omondi is tapping into the influence of entertainment culture to drive this message deeper into the youth demographic.

If successful, the event could mark a new model of civic engagement one where music, comedy, and activism intersect  turning what is typically a political process into a shared cultural moment.
