Comedian and activist Eric Omondi travelled to Bondo, Siaya County, to pay his respects to the late former Prime Minister, Raila Amolo Odinga. Odinga, a towering figure in Kenyan politics, was laid to rest at Kang’o Ka Jaramogion Sunday, October 19, 2025.
During his visit, Omondi met with Mama Ida Odinga, the widow of the former Prime Minister.
The meeting was a gesture of solidarity, where the comedian offered his personal condolences to the family who are still grieving the loss of the veteran politician.
Raila Odinga, who was 80 years old, passed away in India on October 15, 2025.
His death came after a life spent at the forefront of the fight for democracy in Kenya.
Raila Odinga was buried with full military honours, including a 17-gun salute by the army. He was interred next to his father, Jaramogi Oginga Odinga.
Jaramogi Oginga Odinga was Kenya’s first Vice-President and a crucial figure in the nation’s independence struggle.
The burial site in Bondo, known as the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Mausoleum, is now the final resting place for both father and son, and holds significant symbolic weight.
“It reaffirmed the unbroken chain of lineage, returning the son to his father’s soil in both physical and spiritual continuity.”
Omondi’s visit comes amid a period of national mourning that saw thousands turn out for public viewing events. The scale of public reaction reflected the vast influence Odinga had on the country’s political landscape.
The comedian’s action is one of many high-profile tributes paid to the late politician, highlighting the deep respect he commanded across various sectors of Kenyan society.
