Comedian and activist Eric Omondi attended the memorial service of the late teacher Albert Ojwang, held at Ridgeway Baptist Church, in what appeared to be an emotional attempt to mend ties with the bereaved family amid a public dispute over donated funds.
The memorial, held ahead of Ojwang’s burial set for Friday, July 4, 2025, brought together friends, family, and supporters who came to pay their last respects.
Among them was Eric Omondi, who had earlier found himself at odds with Ojwang’s relatives regarding the amount and handling of money raised following the tragic death of Albert.
In a video shared on his Instagram page, Eric is seen solemnly greeting Meshack Opiyo — Albert’s father — and Eucabeth Adhiambo, the late teacher’s widow.
The encounter, though brief, was visibly emotional and symbolic, signaling a possible truce between the parties following days of tension that had played out publicly.
The moment drew strong reactions online, with many Kenyans praising Omondi for choosing to stand with the family despite the controversy.
Supporters thanked him for showing compassion and humility during a trying time for the Ojwang family.
Eric Omondi, who has been active in mobilizing support for bereaved families and vulnerable Kenyans, had earlier helped raise funds for Albert’s burial and family upkeep.
However, conflicting reports over the amount collected and how it was distributed sparked friction between him and some family members.
Omondi’s presence at the memorial — and his respectful gesture to meet the grieving parents — appears to have shifted the mood, offering a moment of unity and healing.
