Nairobi County Woman Representative Esther Passaris has praised President William Ruto and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Raila Odinga for supporting and rewarding Harambee Stars for their victory against Zambia.
In a statement posted on her official X account on Monday August 18, 2025, Passaris applauded Raila Odinga’s pledge of Ksh500,000 as a strong show of support for the team.
“Following Harambee Stars’ emphatic victory over Zambia, Raila Odinga has pledged Ksh500,000 to each player, a gesture of immense appreciation for their stellar performance,” the statement read.
Passaris also praised the President for his earlier pledge of Ksh2.5 million to the Stars as she emphasized that the rewards reflect the country’s deep pride and steadfast support for the Harambee Stars.
“Coupled with H.E. President @WilliamsRuto’s earlier commitment of Ksh2.5M, these rewards underscore the nation’s deep pride and unwavering support for our football heroes,” she stated.
Passaris further remarked that Kenyans will rally behind Harambee Stars as they continue to emerge victorious.
“Kenya stands united behind Harambee Stars as they march toward continental glory. Let the momentum soar!” she concluded.
Her statement comes after President Ruto promised each member of Harambee Stars squad a cash reward of Sh2.5 million should Kenya beat Zambia in the team’s final Group ‘A’ match of 2024 African Nations Championship (Chan).
“If you win against Zambia, I will reward each one of you with Sh2.5 million,” he declared.
Raila Odinga had also on Sunday, August 17, 2025, promised each Harambee Stars player KSh 500,000 on top of the president’s pledge while congratulating the players following their win.
“I decided to come and say Hongera. We were all worried that if you drew or lost you were going to play out of Nairobi, and we want you to play infant of our fans here. I will add to what the president has promised. I will give you KSh 500,000 each,” he said.
