Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested a land fraud suspect who failed to appear in court for plea taking, intensifying efforts to clamp down on fraudulent property dealings in Nairobi.

Francis Maina Ndegwa was expected to appear before the Milimani Law Courts on February 19, 2026, to answer to charges of fraudulently procuring a Certificate of Lease.

However, he failed to present himself in court, prompting the presiding Magistrate to issue a warrant of arrest.

According to investigators, Ndegwa is accused of forging the signatures of a land registrar, a land administrator and several advocates in a calculated attempt to unlawfully take over a prime parcel of land in Pangani valued at Ksh50 million.

The professionals whose signatures were allegedly forged have disowned any involvement in the transaction.

The DCI said the suspect’s actions were uncovered following “a meticulous investigation” by officers attached to the Land Fraud Investigations Unit. Authorities further noted that the alleged scheme was aimed at evicting the rightful owners of the property.

“Immediately the Magistrate signed his Warrant of Arrest, a manhunt ensued, leading to his arrest,” the DCI stated. The suspect is currently in custody and is expected to be arraigned in court tomorrow.

The agency described the arrest as part of “sustained operations to dismantle illegal land fraud schemes” and sent a stern warning to individuals engaging in similar crimes.

“The DCI remains committed to protecting the interests of legitimate property owners and ensuring that justice is served to all, equally and expeditiously,” the statement read.

Land fraud remains a major concern in Nairobi, with authorities pledging firm action against perpetrators.
