Indian police have arrested the owner of an illegal clinic and his nephew after a woman died following a botched surgery in Barabanki, Uttar Pradesh. Authorities say the clinic was operating without proper authorization and that the procedure was carried out by a man impersonating a doctor.
According to police, Munishra Rawat, wife of Tehbahadur Rawat, was taken to the clinic on December 5 after complaining of abdominal pain. She was advised to undergo surgery at the facility.
Investigators allege that during the operation at Shri Damodar Aushdhalaya in Kothi, the clinic owner, Gyan Prakash Mishra, relied on a YouTube tutorial for guidance, with his nephew assisting him.
Police further state that Mishra was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the procedure. The surgery, The Times of India reports, went wrong after multiple veins were cut, leading to serious complications. The woman’s condition worsened, and she died the following day on December 6.
Following the incident, police launched investigations and arrested both the clinic owner and his nephew. Authorities confirmed that the clinic was being run illegally and that the owner had no legal authority to conduct medical procedures.
The case has drawn attention to the dangers of unlicensed medical practitioners who are unqualified and running illegal clinics. Investigations into the incident are ongoing as police continue to establish the full circumstances surrounding the woman’s death.
