Family appeals for help after their son was killed by government vehicle in Kisumu

A somber mood hangs over Kamrongo village in Kisumu East Constituency after a family lost their son in a tragic accident involving the convoy of the Cabinet Secretary for Health last week at Otonglo.

Michael Ouma, aged 24, died on March 7 after being struck along the Kisumu Busia highway.

His parents, Christopher Ouma and Lilian Ouma, are now struggling to raise funds to give their son a dignified burial.

Speaking with deep sorrow, Christopher Ouma described the pain of losing his only son.

“Michael was a hardworking young man with big dreams. He was our hope, and now we are left with a huge void. We appeal to the government to look at us with compassion.”

His mother, Lilian Ouma, echoed the grief, highlighting the financial burden the family faces.

“It is very difficult for us. We have lost our child, and now we are overwhelmed by the costs of the funeral. We are pleading for help so that we can lay him to rest with dignity.”

Neighbors in Kamrongo have also rallied behind the family, calling for greater accountability in the way government convoys operate.

“Accidents like these can be avoided. We want to see real measures taken so that ordinary citizens do not lose their lives because of convoys,” said one of the family’s neighbors.

The tragedy has sparked wider debate about road safety and the responsibility of official convoys, with many residents urging authorities to prioritize public safety.

For the Ouma family, however, the immediate concern remains the burial of their son. They continue to appeal for assistance from both the government and the public, hoping that support will come in time to ease their burden.

This heartbreaking incident serves as a reminder of the fragility of life and the need for empathy, accountability, and stronger safety measures on Kenyan roads.
