Youthful journalist Nick Kosgey will be laid to rest on Saturday March 7, 2026, at his family home in Kipkebe, Bomet County, following his death in a tragic helicopter crash in Nandi County that claimed six lives on February 28, 2026.
On behalf of the family, a statement released by Bomet governor Hillary Barchok, outlined the funeral programme, beginning with a joint memorial service in Nairobi.
“Wednesday, 4th March 2026: A Joint Mass Service for all six air crash victims will be held at AGC Karen Church, in Nairobi,” the statement read.
The body will then be transported to his home county for final rites. “Friday 6th March 2026: His body, alongside two others, will be flown from Nairobi to Emurua Dikirr Primary School for a Joint Mass funeral service.
Later that evening, the body will be flown to Bomet and be preserved at the AGC Tenwek Hospital Mortuary,” the family announced.
The final send-off will take place on Saturday. “Saturday 7th March 2026: The body will leave Tenwek for Precious Academy Grounds, Kipkebe for a funeral service and burial thereafter at his family home in Kipkebe,” the statement read.

The family expressed gratitude for the support received, saying they “appreciate the outpouring of love and messages of comfort following the loss of their beloved son, Nicholas.”
Among those who mourned Kosgey was Hillary Barchok, who described him as a promising and dedicated media practitioner.
“Quite saddened to learn that among those who passed on in the ill-fated helicopter crash in Nandi County was a talented son of Bomet,” Barchok wrote.
The governor recalled Kosgey’s journey, noting that he interned in the county’s communications department in 2023 while still a student at Maseno University, where he served as chief editor of the students’ magazine.
“At the county government, Nick distinguished himself as a go-getter; he would do it all. He was never one to put his talent to waste,” Barchok said.

He added that Kosgey’s “standout work soon caught the attention of Hon. Johanna Ngeno, who snapped him up, and employed him as his personal photographer.”
Kosgey later became a key member of Ngeno’s media team, earning praise for his creativity and work ethics.
“He led a short but impactful and purposeful life. May his soul rest in eternal peace. This is a sad day indeed,” Barchok concluded.
