Three farmers’ groups in Tseikuru Sub-county, Mwingi North, have received modern farming machinery valued at Sh3.5 million, courtesy of the National Drought Management Authority (NDMA). The initiative aims to enhance agricultural productivity and efficiency in the region.
Speaking during the handover, Kitui NDMA Coordinator Francis Koma emphasized that the equipment would significantly improve farmers’ harvests, reduce time spent on farming activities, and offer opportunities for commercial growth within the groups.
Koma also noted that the introduction of modern technology in farming could help attract more youth to agriculture, as they are well-suited to operate the machines.
The beneficiaries expressed optimism about the impact of the donation, saying the new machinery would increase the value of their produce and enable them to fetch better prices in the market.
Previously, many relied on oxen for ploughing, but with the new equipment, they expect to improve productivity and save time.
“With the modern machines, we will get better harvest from our farms and I thank the government for bringing the machines. The machines can also be leased to other farmers to generate income to group members,” said Beth Kanini.
