Campaigns for the Isiolo South constituency by-election have intensified ahead of the vote scheduled on February 26, 2026.
Faruk Kibet led a delegation of United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Members of Parliament to Sericho in Isiolo South, where they urged Bina Tubi to step aside in favor of her brother, Tubi Mohamed Tubi.
Elders in the area have reportedly endorsed Tubi Mohamed Tubi as the preferred candidate.
Bina Tubi, who is backed by the Jubilee Party, is considered the main challenger to her brother, the UDA candidate, in what is shaping up to be a closely contested race.
Among those present was Japhet Nyakundi, the MP for Kitutu Chache and UDA treasurer. He said that if elected, Tubi would be appointed to the parliamentary Water Committee to help address water shortages in Isiolo South.
Nyakundi also criticized former President Uhuru Kenyatta, accusing him of attempting to divide the late MP’s family, which he claimed could jeopardize their chances of retaining the seat.
Nyakundi appealed to Bina Tubi to support her brother to avoid splitting the vote and allowing a third candidate to win.
Former Kinna Ward MCA Isaack Fayo is also in the race, vying for the seat on the National Economic Development Party, a party recently registered by former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko.
Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa also addressed residents, criticizing the previous administration for allegedly failing to deliver key services to North Eastern Kenya, including water, roads, and access to identity cards.
He urged voters to back Tubi, saying his alignment with the current government would help fast-track development projects.
At the same time, Mohamed Liban, Principal Secretary in the State Department for Petroleum and a native of Isiolo County, promised that the government would extend electricity to the area if residents supported its agenda.
Tubi Mohamed Tubi pledged to continue the legacy of his late father, former Isiolo South MP Mohamed Tupi, particularly in supporting education through bursaries and maintaining peaceful coexistence and security among communities in the region.
