Ferdinand Omanyala finishes second in Rabat Diamond League, eyes Kip Keino Classic Glory

Commonwealth Games champion Ferdinand Omanyala continued his strong 2025 season with a second-place finish in the men’s 100m at the fourth leg of the Diamond League in Rabat, Morocco, on Sunday night.

Omanyala clocked 10.05 seconds, finishing behind South Africa’s Akani Simbine, who won in 9.95 seconds. The 2022 World champion Fred Kerley of the United States came third in 10.07 seconds.

Omanyala’s performance in Rabat adds to an already impressive year. Just a week earlier, he set a new African record of 14.70 seconds in the men’s 150m at the Atlanta City Games in the United States.

He has also been instrumental in leading Kenya’s 4x100m relay team to qualification for the World Championships in Tokyo.

Looking ahead, Omanyala will headline the men’s 100m at the upcoming Kip Keino Classic, scheduled for May 31 at Nairobi’s Ulinzi Sports Complex. The event, part of the World Continental Tour Gold series, has attracted 189 elite athletes, including 59 Kenyans.

Omanyala will face stiff competition from world-class sprinters such as Australia’s World Indoor 60m silver medalist Kennedy Lachlan, Canada’s Olympic 4x100m relay champion Jerome Blake, and South Africa’s Olympic 4x100m relay silver medalist Bayanda Walaza.

The Kip Keino Classic is regarded as one of Africa’s premier athletics events, drawing top talent from around the world.

This year’s edition has been moved from Nyayo Stadium to the Ulinzi Sports Complex due to renovations but promises an electrifying atmosphere with an expected crowd of around 10,000 spectators.
