Five people, among them a student, have lost their lives following a grisly road accident at Salama in Makueni County along the busy Mombasa–Nairobi highway.
The victims were travelling in a PSV matatu when it was involved in the fatal crash, the circumstances of which are yet to be officially confirmed.
According to officials at Sultan Hamud Hospital, several other passengers sustained injuries and are currently receiving treatment. One of the survivors, a female student from Ukia Girls High School, is reported to be in critical condition.
Authorities are yet to issue an official statement on the cause of the accident as investigations continue.
