Five suspects face murder charges over deadly Kitengela nightclub shooting

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has released an update on the shooting that took place in the early morning hours of Sunday, January 25, 2026, at C & M Lounge in Kitengela, Kajiado County.

Upon receiving reports of the incident, the DCI immediately launched a comprehensive investigation.

Investigators from the Sub-County Criminal Investigations Office (SCCIO) in Isinya, working alongside Crime Scene Investigators, moved swiftly to secure and document the scene.

Key physical evidence, including spent cartridges, was carefully collected and preserved for forensic analysis.

“The crime scene was meticulously documented and key exhibits, including spent cartridges, were recovered and preserved for further forensic examination and police action,” the DCI stated.

The following day, January 26, 2026, a specialized team from the National Forensic Laboratory, comprising ballistics, imaging, acoustics, and crime scene experts, conducted an in-depth examination of the location.

The team also reviewed and analyzed available CCTV footage to strengthen the evidence gathered.

Three firearms voluntarily surrendered by individuals linked to the investigation were submitted for ballistic testing, and the resulting forensic report was subsequently delivered to the investigating team.

In total, eleven witnesses and persons of interest recorded formal statements during the inquiry.

Upon concluding the investigation, SCCIO Isinya compiled a full investigation file along with a detailed brief and recommendations, which were forwarded to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) in Kajiado on February 2, 2026.

The inquiry recommended that five individuals face murder charges under Section 203 as read with Section 204 of the Penal Code, as well as attempted murder charges under Section 220, in connection with the death of Kevin Shepashina Maseli and the injuries sustained by Joseph Kasio, who was still receiving hospital treatment at the time.

The DCI is currently awaiting direction from the ODPP and has pledged to act accordingly.

In its closing remarks, the Directorate was unequivocal about its mandate, stating that it remains steadfast in its commitment to the pursuit of justice, the upholding of the rule of law, and the protection of every citizen’s right to a fair and impartial investigation, ensuring that all perpetrators of serious crimes are held fully accountable through due process.
